I read recently that oatmeal is good for the heart. I probably knew this once, and then other priorities kicked in; survival being one, and I made myself forget. I used to eat oatmeal biscuits. They are 95% oatmeal which means there isn’t much room for anything else. It gets tiring reading long lists of additives in food….
Yesterday, I purchased some oatmeal biscuits to stave off hunger at work as my hours swing across the lunch period and so, being someone who has always eaten little and often, I like a snack. I used to eat bananas but read recently that they are high in sugar.
I’m glad my mother didn’t prevent us from eating between meals. My tummy was always rumbling as a child. I was very energetic, spending hours dancing and running around with my dog. Sometimes I would spend my pocket money on tinned fruit.
During the day yesterday, I felt good. I ate a slice of Jalapeno bread and for lunch the oatmeal and mild cheddar, vine tomato and lettuce with herbs from our garden.
For dinner, my partner had bought a ready meal, pork with sauce, ready covered. The sauce had two types of sugar in it. I ate the pork but I woke several times feeling thirsty in the night. My partner cooked some lovely red pepper and onion, and fresh broccoli to go with the meal too. Delicious. I’ve always loved peppers, they are full of vitamin C.
I cycled about 20k yesterday too. I’ll pay attention to this and try to work out when I wake in the night thirsty and whether I’ve done my usual 17 k ride, which I’ve done less of since I fell off my bike at the end of February.
I’m in the coffee shop writing, and having my usual latte.
Eat well,
Hermione
